Job Description
TITLE: Child Nutrition Worker
JOB GOALS: Assist in the preparation and serving of meals in the school cafeteria;
assist in maintaining food service facilities in a clean, organized, and sanitary condition; perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education – none specified, but high school diploma or GED preferred.
- Functional skills in reading and writing English, and basic mathematics.
- Achieve 6 continuing education training hours yearly.
- FBI fingerprint clearance.
- Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned duties.
REPORTS TO: Child Nutrition Program Manager
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Food Preparation and Serving
- Prepare quality food according to a planned menu using MS Recipes for Success.
- Set up serving counters and lines and serve food in correct amounts according to meal schedules.
- Practice and promote portion control and proper use of leftovers.
- Customer mealtime service includes serving customers and keeping the service line replenished, clean and organized.
Sanitation, Safety and Security
- Operate and clean a variety of food service equipment and machines including warmers, stove, ovens, slicers, steamers, and mixers according to prescribed safety standards.
- Follow established procedures to meet high standards of cleanliness, health and safety.
- Keep garbage collection containers and areas neat and sanitary. Remove all garbage from the kitchen daily.
- Keep work area clean. Clean floors, tables, and chairs in dining area. Cooperate in cleaning of the entire cafeteria. Follow the manager’s posted cleaning schedule.
- Perform major cleaning of equipment, refrigeration and storerooms at regularly scheduled intervals as designated by the manager.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
- Stock shelves, receive and properly put away groceries and supplies in correct storage areas.
- Label, date and properly store all leftovers. Food is NOT to be taken from the cafeteria at any time.
- Maintain personal appearance and hygiene; a hairnet or other approved hair restraint must be worn at all times while working in the cafeterias.
Financial Management and Recordkeeping
- Handle and record cashier functions accurately following policies for cash handling procedures.
- Help record food requisitions and order necessary supplies.
- Assistance in the maintenance of daily food preparation records (Food Production Record).
- May assist in the inventory of stored, refrigerated, and frozen food as assigned.
Other
- Follow at all times instructions given by the manager and give all possible cooperation to fellow employees.
- Promote teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members; treat fellow workers and customers with respect and kindness.
- Report to work when scheduled, on time, in full uniform, including shoes that completely cover the foot.
- Superior attendance is required.
- Notify manager ahead of time of any appointments (doctors, dentist, etc.) so that the manager can arrange work accordingly.
- Participate in staff development to earn 6 hours of training yearly.

- Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing (ladder)
- Moderate lifting and carrying 1 to 40 pounds
- Repetitive motion hand-wrist, elbow
- Moderate exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures
OTHER DUTIES:
Performs other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The salary and length of contract shall be established by the Board of Education.
